Pool Cue Joints and Shafts

There are a variety of pins and collars that are used to join the butt to the shaft.

We've put together a list of the most common pin types.

Pin sizes are measured by diameter, and threads per inch. 

Radial, Speed-Loc, and Uni-Loc are all name brands of specific pin types and do not conform the the standard pin measurements.

The most common collars are stainless steel, phenolic, or some other synthetic plastic material. You will also find cues that have no collars, and these are referred to as "wood to wood" joints.

Sometimes collars will have decorative rings. These can vary from a single line of silver, to intricate inlay patterns that accentuate the overall design of the cue.

When buying a shaft, be sure to know beforehand if your joint is flat face - the butt and the shaft are both flat where they meet, or piloted - there is a little nub on the shaft insert that settles in flush against a recess in the collar on the butt.
