The CueSight billiards cue is remarkably simple to use. With a little effort, you will be able to use a few techniques to dramatically increase your ability and your enjoyment of the game.
TURNING THE UNIT ON
To turn on your CueSight, slide the power switch toward the tip of the cue. The cue is now on. It is recommended that the unit be switched off between shots. Average battery life is 1 to 2 hours of continuous use. Note that a shot takes only a few seconds, so, used properly, the batteries should last many, many games.
USING THE CUESIGHT TO LINE UP SHOTS
Note that the laser beam emitted from the tip of the cue stick shines parallel and collinear with the cue.
First, mark a spot on the object ball where you wish to have it struck by the cue ball by assuming a shooting position as if you were to hit the object ball directly into the pocket. The laser will illuminate the object ball at the spot where the cue ball needs to strike it. Imagine the cue ball in that "striking" position.
Assume your normal shooting position, and use the beam to show the path the cue ball will take. This is easily accomplished by raising and lowering the butt of the cue, causing the laser beam crosshairs to shine on the cue ball, and onto the object ball or felt. The CueSight billiards cue is properly aligned when the beam shines in a spot along the line the cue ball must travel to pass through the "striking" position you found.
USING THE CUESIGHT TO APPLY ENGLISH
The crosshairs projected by the CueSight pinpoints the exact spot where the tip will strike the cue ball. Strike with the spot high on the cue ball to put forward spin on the ball. Striking the cue ball low will give it back spin, perhaps preventing it from following the target ball into a pocket. Striking on the left and right of the cue ball will impart spins as well. Experience and trial will show you what English works best for each shot.
USING THE CUESIGHT TO IMPROVE YOUR STROKE
By now you will have noticed that the crosshairs on the cue ball shifts up and down or perhaps sideways as you effect your shot. That perfect stroke you thought you had now appears flawed! To correct this, try to keep the crosshairs at exactly the same position on the cue ball through the full stroke of your shot. Paying attention to this will add consistency to your shots, and improve your game overall.
CHECKING CLEARANCES WITH THE CUESIGHT
If there is an interfering ball between the cue ball and the object ball, you can use the CueSight to see if there is enough clearance to make the shot. By projecting the beam along the edge of the cue ball onto the edge of the object ball, on the side of these where the interfering ball lies, you can see if the cue ball will make it past or not. If the beam is blocked by the interfering ball, the shot is not possible without applying English.
