Owens Upsets Daulton for Hot Seat at Music City

In a stunning upset, Gabe Owen of Tulsa, OK, defeated Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton in the hot seat match.

Owen was up 4-0, 6-2, and 9-5 on Daulton before winning the match by the score of 11-9.

Daulton, who has won the Music City Open twice in the past, will face Shawn Putnam in the one-loss bracket in the match for third place.

Putnam faced off with Cliff Joyner, a great all-around player from Rocky Mountain, NC, in the one-loss bracket this afternoon.

Putnam was up 5-0 on Joyner when he scratched on the break and left Joyner a hanging 1-9 combo.

This turn of events gave Joyner a boost of energy, and Putnam spent much of the next hour sitting down.

Joyner ran three racks and then made nothing on the break.

The two were tied 6-all, but Joyner soon pulled ahead to get on the hill, 10-6. However, Putnam didn't give up.

Putnam finally got a shot a turned the momentum around when Joyner made an unforced error.

Joyner's only opportunity the rest of the set came when Putnam was forced to push out on a 1-5 combination that was hanging in the side.

Joyner refused the shot and Putnam made a jump shot to pocket the combination and slopped in the 9 ball on the same stroke.

Putnam kept possession of the table and came back to win the match 11-10.

In the women's division, Pam Bell was eliminated by Monica Webb 7-3, settling for third place.

Defending champion Webb will go on to play Helena Thornfeldt in the finals and will have to defeat her twice to win the event.

The finals will be at 5 PM Sunday.
